MD 0032 SYKESVILLE ROAD MD 108 TO LINDEN CHURCH ROAD INTERCHANGE
Status
7/25/2018This project is currently 56% complete and is scheduled to be fully complete this fall.

Recently completed work (since last newsletter):
- Completed installing underdrain pipe, (along the roadside edge) Installing Drainage pipe along Both Sides of MD 32 North and South Bound. Crews have completed approx. 2500 LF of subgrade and stone placement for the new South Bound roadway, most of which has new asphalt placed as well. They have completed several large Storm Water Management Ponds for Phase one and continue to work on the next ones in line heading North. The associated structures will be attached once they move to Phase 2 of the MOT phase which is scheduled for August 2018 (weather permitting). They will be shifting the current traffic pattern to the newly constructed lanes on the South Bound side. They will then move the current North bound lane to newly constructed lanes on the South Bound side. VMS Message boards will be placed in advance of and after the new traffic pattern being implemented.

The ASE Program is still being deployed on the project.

Upcoming work items/areas over the next month:
- Complete the excavation of Pond 8 including associated structures, Continue to prepare subgrade and Placing GAB (stone) for the new roadway South Bound MD 32, begin to move further North along the south bound side of MD 32 into Zone 2 rough Grading and begin to clear trees and excavate at the existing Linden Church Interchange

THERE WILL BE AN UPCOMING DETOUR AT THE OFF RAMP FOR SOUTH BOUND MD 32. PRIOR TO THE DETOUR THERE WILL BE MORE INFORMATION AVAILABLE AND POSTED TO THE WEBSITE!

4/10/2018•Recently completed work (since last newsletter). Continue to excavate Ponds and sediment basins for E&S controls and storm water, Installing Drainage pipe along Both Sides of MD 32 North and South Bound. We have completed several large structures for Phase one, some of these structures will be attached once we move to Phase 2 of the MOT phase which is scheduled for July 2018 (weather permitting)
- upcoming work over the next month includes completing the excavation of Pond 1 and associated structures, Begin Placing GAB (stone) for the new roadway South Bound MD 32, begin to move further North along the south bound side of MD 32 into Zone 2 rough Grading and begin to clear trees and grubb for new E&S Controls in Ponds 7 and 8
 
1/24/2018The MD 32 dualization project is 22 percent complete. Crews are currently working on the south end of the project and are installing storm water management facilities. Crews are also placing the base layer of the new roadway. In coming weeks, crews will move north towards the Linden Church interchange, where they will begin clearing and grubbing vegetation. All work remains on the southbound side of the roadway, at this time.
 
11/17/2017- Crews are blasting rock in preparation for drainage and roadway widening
- Crews continue to install drainage pipes
- Crews continue to work on excavation and slope work
 
9/12/2017Work is underway. Governor Hogan broke ground for the project on August 31st. Temporary construction signs have been installed as well as barrier wall. Crews are actively clearing along southbound MD 32. All work is being performed behind barrier wall. Please slow down in the construction area.


 
5/24/2017Concrete General has been named the contractor for the design-build contract. A public meeting is being planned for June 28th between 6:30 and 8:30pm at Dayton Oaks Elementary School.
 
1/4/2017The successful proposer has been selected. Notice to Proceed for final design is anticipated by March 2017.
 
5/25/2016The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is widening MD 32 from a two lane road to a four-lane divided highway with shoulders between MD 108 and Linden Church Road in Howard County. The wider roadway will improve safety and operations and reduce traffic congestion within the corridor region.
Construction funding from the State and Howard County was announced in January 2016. Design is currently underway. Construction is scheduled to begin by summer 2017 with completion anticipated by summer 2019.
 
1/1/2013Engineering to begin during current fiscal year. Construction to begin during budget fiscal year. Howard County is contributing $16.5 million to this project.
