MD 0032 SYKESVILLE ROAD AT LINDEN CHURCH ROAD
When will this impact me?
MD 32, Patuxent Freeway
Location of Project:
AT LINDEN CHURCH ROAD
Construct a new interchange at Linden Church Road.
This project is located within the jurisdiction of SHA’s District 7 in Clarksville, Howard County at the intersection of MD 32 and Linden Church Road. The scope of the project includes construction of a full diamond interchange at MD 32 and Linden Church Road. Linden Church Road will be realigned to the south of its current location and will then cross over MD 32. On the west side of MD 32, Linden Church Road begins at an existing T intersection with Ten Oaks Road. On the east side of MD 32, the roadway will tie back into existing Linden Church Road just east of Broadwater Lane. In the northeast quadrant of the interchange, Greenberry Lane will be realigned to the east to create a four legged intersection with Broadwater Lane and Linden Church Road. Greenberry Lane will be designed as an access road.
On the west side, the ramp terminals will form a four-legged intersection with Linden Church Road, and stop control is anticipated for the southbound ramp approach. A roundabout is proposed for the intersection of Linden Church Road and the northbound ramp terminals on the east side of the interchange. The interchange ramps will tie in to the existing MD 32, and will be designed to accommodate future dualization of MD 32. Due to the alignment of the proposed bridge and the interchange ramps some of the existing Howard County roads may need to be relocated or closed.
The Modified Maryland T intersections are used at the existing intersections of MD 32 at West Linden Church Road and MD 32 at Greenberry Lane. At the intersection of MD 32 and Linden church Road the southbound traffic is signal controlled, while at MD 32 and Greenberry Lane the northbound traffic is signal controlled. Both of those signals will be removed during the construction of the interchange project, allowing for unobstructed flow of traffic along MD 32.
At the request of Howard County the scope of the project will also include work along Ten Oaks Road to address the vertical profile of the road and the intersection sight distance at Ten Oaks Road and Linden Church Road.
Modifications to the drainage design are required to meet the new MDE regulations.
Different Maintenance of Traffic options were evaluated to minimize impacts on existing traffic patterns during construction of the project.
