2/27/2014The project team has submitted a letter to Worcester County Commissioners in response to investigating a 100' bandwith along MD 589. As a result of our findings, several items would need to be considered i.e. reduction of the median width, impacts to the sidewalks and reducing travel lanes. SHA recommends that further analysis would be required if MD 589 proceeds to a project planning study.

9/6/2012The project team is currently assessing the 100' typical section along MD 589. Once completed, a letter will be sent to the Worcester County Commissioners with the results of the analysis in Summer 2012.
 
1/17/2012Following the Planning Board Meeting, the County Commissioners requested an additional analysis of the proposed roadway width to be performed. A 100' typical section along the MD 589 corridor was requested by the Commissioners and is being analyzed by SHA.
 
9/6/2011The team provided an update on the status of the study to the Worcester County Commissioners. The purpose of the update was to review all the activities that the team has completed, including the MD 589 Corridor Vision Plan, along with proposing a right-of-way bandwidth based on the concepts developed. The team's next step will be to meet with the Worcester County Planning Board.
 
6/10/2011SHA and Worcester County are finalizing commitments that both organizations will pursue in order to support the MD 589 Corridor Feasibility Study recommendations. A Letter of Agreement between SHA and Worcester County is anticipated to be finalized this Summer.
 
12/16/2010The team gave a presentation to the MD 589 Stakeholders' Group on November 4, 2010. This was the final meeting of that group. The purpose of the meeting was to provide the Stakeholders with an update on the MD 589 Corridor Feasibility Study, to present the recommended right-of-way bandwidth along the MD 589 Corridor, and to present the remaining steps of the corridor feasibility study process.

On November 16, 2010 the team gave the same presentation to the Worcester County Board of Education.
 
10/7/2010The team gave a presentation to the Worcester County elected officials to provide a final update on the MD 589 Corridor Feasibility Study, to recommend a right-of-way bandwidth based on the concepts developed, and to discuss the next steps of the team. The team is currently finalizing the MD 589 Corridor Vision Plan.
 
7/21/2010The team is currently working with Worcester County on the development of a Corridor Vision Plan.
 
1/6/2010The Public Meeting was held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Stephen Decatur Middle School Cafeteria. Approximately 110 people attended the meeting. The team is currently evaluating public meeting comments.
 
10/8/2009The Reconnaissance Survey is currently being reviewed.

Short-term improvements along MD 589 from US 50 to MD 90 have been developed based on slots being implemented at the Ocean Downs Race Track. The team has developed long-term preliminary interchange concepts for US 50 at MD 589 based on year 2030 traffic projections. Long-term concepts along MD 589 from US 50 to MD 113 are also being evaluated. A brochure is being developed for the scheduled Public Meeting on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. The meeting will be held at Stephen Decatur Middle School located at 9815 Seahawk Road, Berlin, MD. The time of the meeting will be from 4:00pm to 7:30pm.
 
7/14/2009The Informational Open House Meeting was held on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the Stephen Decatur Middle School Cafeteria. The team is currently finalizing the Reconnaissance Survey.

The study is currently in the process of developing a newsletter regarding the Community Open Meeting scheduled for September 18, 2008.
 
7/10/2008The 1st Stakeholders Group meeting was held on June 19, 2008 to discuss the process and schedule of the now named MD 589 Corridor Feasibility Study. Also discussed was the reconnaissance survey that is currently underway to obtain a broad range of information of the study area and corridor.
