Status Updates
9/17/2018This project is complete.
5/1/2018The new end sections and parapets (side walls) are complete and on May 1 the southbound right lane was opened to traffic, ending the bidirectional traffic pattern on the northbound lanes. SHA will continue the current pattern with traffic on the right lanes until project completion. This will provide a safety buffer for median work. Motorists should stay alert during this time for equipment entering and exiting the highway. All lanes will be open before Memorial Day weekend. In late May/early June SHA will pave the northbound lanes using single lane closures during off-peak hours.
11/16/2017Work on the remaining five bridges will continue through the winter. Southbound US 13 bridges over Norfolk Southern Railroad, MD 346 (Old Ocean City Road), US 50 (Ocean Gateway), MD 350 (Mt. Hermon Road) and Parker Pond all will receive latex overlays to improve ride quality and drainage and extend the service life of the bridge decks by several decades. Replacement of the end sections at MD 346, US 50 and MD 350 is also underway. Traffic will run bidirectional on the northbound lanes through the winter. This project remains on-schedule for completion by spring 2018.
9/3/2017The new end sections on the ramp bridge from US 13 south to Salisbury Bypass south/east continue to take shape. The concrete decks will be poured by early September. With good weather traffic should be restored and the detour lifted by the end of the month.

Work also continues on the southbound bridges over Parker Pond and MD 350 (Mt. Hermon Road). The bidirectional traffic pattern will return north of US 50 in mid-October. All traffic will be shifted onto the northbound lanes so work can begin on the southbound bridges over Norfolk Southern Railroad, MD 346 (Old Ocean City Road) and US 50 Business.
3/15/2017New beams and reinforcing steel have been placed for the bridge deck end sections over MD 346 and US 50. Concrete will be poured in April. Work is underway on the long ramp from southbound US 13 to the eastbound Salisbury Bypass. SHA will maintain traffic on this ramp while bridge end sections are replaced.
12/20/2016Since the October traffic shift we've made steady progress on the northbound bridges. Latex-modified concrete overlays have been completed at the Norfolk-Southern overpass as well as bridges over MD 346 and US 50. Crews have begun replacing the end sections at the MD 346 bridge and will move to US 50 for the same work early in 2017. This project remains on-schedule for completion in 2018.
9/19/2016Construction of the temporary median and ramp crossovers is underway. These will be used to shift traffic onto one side of the Salisbury Bypass around the bridge work areas. The first traffic shift is scheduled for mid-October.
1/1/2016Construction to begin during budget fiscal year.
