The project team continues to identify other potential breakout projects to move into the final design phase.

8/22/2017A breakout project for the left turn lanes on MD 5 at the Abell Street/Moakley Street intersection has been funded for design. 1/7/2016The project team is identifying breakout projects to move into the final design phase. Currently, a breakout project for the left turn lanes on MD 5 at the Abell Street/Moakley Street intersection has been funded for design.
 
7/21/2014The project team received approval from the Federal Highway Administration on the project's Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). The FONSI is the project's final environmental document and is available to the public.
 
1/7/2014The project team is currently working towards identifying a Preferred Alternative.
 
1/16/2013The project team is evaluating the comments received at the Location/Design Public Hearing.
 
8/16/2012The Location/Design Public Hearing transcript was placed on display.
 
6/28/2012A Location/Design Public Hearing was held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Leonardtown High School, 23995 Point Loockout Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Displays were available at 5:00 P. M. and a formal presentation began at 7:00 P. M. followed by public testimony.

The project team wishes to thank everyone who participated in the Location/Design Public Hearing.
 
5/10/2012The project team is updating the alternatives to include the new Environmental Site Design (ESD) regulations, which took effect in 2010 as part of the Stormwater Management Act of 2007. The new ESD regulations call for the use of several smaller water treatment facilities that mimic the conditions found in the area before any development, instead of using large water retention ponds commonly found in the past.
 
3/4/2011Detailed engineering and environmental studies are underway. A public hearing will be scheduled at a later date to receive public input on the alternatives and studies to date.

7/14/2008Progress continues on the MD 5 Project Planning Study. Since SHA initiated the study in 2007, the project team gathered environmental and traffic data, received concurrence on the purpose and need statement, and developed preliminary conceptual alternatives that were presented at an Informational Public Workshop on December 11, 2007.
 
3/31/2008The project's Purpose and Need document is completed.
