10/31/2019The bridge at Old Mill Stream was successfully moved into place. Due to prolonged rain an additional day was needed to complete backfilling and paving.
10/11/2019SHA will move the new bridge at Old Mill Stream (south end of town) into place the weekend of October 18. This will require a full closure and detour of MD 213. The work plan is as follows: SHA will close MD 213 at the bridge at 8 p.m. on Thursday night, October 17. Detour signs will be posted. This closure will continue around the clock through the weekend with MD 213 reopening by 5 a.m. Monday morning, October 21. Demolition of the old bridge will take place Friday-Saturday and the new bridge will be moved into place during the overnight hours Saturday into Sunday. During the closure pedestrians and cyclists will NOT be able to cross the stream at this location. SHA urges commuters to plan ahead for Friday, October 18. MD 213 will be closed all day at the south end of town; through traffic should plan to use MD 305 or other routes to the north such as MD 300, MD 405 and MD 19 for travel between US 301 and MD 213.
8/6/2019Attention has shifted to the Old Mill Stream bridge at the south end of town, where crews are constructing the new bridge in the staging area. Construction of the new bridge foundations and abutments is underway - the bulk of this work is accomplished via weekend full road closures and overnight single lane closures. Steel plates across MD 213 cover the excavated bridge abutment areas and maintain traffic most of the time while giving workers needed access during overnight hours and weekend closure periods. The second of four planned weekend closures at this location should occur in mid-August. On the north end of town work continues at the Gravel Run bridge as crews are forming the wing walls in preparation for the last major concrete pours. One more weekend closure is needed at Gravel Run; this date has not yet been determined.
6/4/2019The third of four planned weekend closures for the Gravel Run bridge replacement is scheduled for the weekend of June 7-10. Weather permitting, SHA will close MD 213 just south of MD 305 at 7 p.m. Friday, June 7. Work includes removal of the temporary "jump" bridge and restoration of the roadway to original grade. When MD 213 reopens by 5 a.m. Monday morning drivers will be using the new bridge. Temporary concrete barrier will still be in place along the bridge sides and crews will continue working behind this barrier during the week to finish the new parapets (side walls) and lighting. One more weekend closure should be needed for guardrail installation and final surface paving/striping of the bridge approach roadway.

At the south end of town, overnight lane closures and flagging continue as the Old Mill Stream site is readied for the new bridge which is under construction in the staging area across from Citgo. Once the weekend closures at Gravel Run are completed we'll schedule the first of four weekend closures for the Old Mill Stream bridge.
Please see the closure/detour map on the "Maps" tab of this project website.

The first of four planned weekend MD 213 closures at Gravel Run will begin Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. and continue through the weekend. MD 213 will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday morning, April 8. Detour signs will be posted. Commercial truck drivers passing through Centreville over the weekend may want to avoid using MD 304/Water Street in town due to limited turning radius. Stay on US 301 if possible.

Crews will use this closure to install a temporary "jump bridge" which will maintain traffic during the week while work progresses underneath.
2/6/2019Utility work is underway at the Old Mill Stream Branch location. Temporary concrete barrier has been placed at the Gravel Run bridge in advance of demolition work which will commence in March.
