Status Updates
9/17/2018This project is substantially complete.
5/1/2018Pier cap restoration and the final concrete deck pour have been completed. Following a 28-day cure period for the deck the remaining parapets (side walls) on the bridges over MD 290 and Red Lion Branch will be constructed. Remaining work includes grooving of the deck surfaces for drainage/traction, sealing, paving and guardrail installation. All work should be completed by mid-summer.
1/17/2018Completion of the bridge deck over MD 290 has been delayed due to additional work needed on one of the pier caps supporting the deck. When the pier cap repairs are completed crews will resume pouring concrete for the second half of the deck. Completion is estimated at summer 2018.
9/3/2017The second half of the bridge deck over Red Lion Branch has been poured and is in the curing stage. The second half of the bridge deck over MD 290 will be poured by mid-September.
7/18/2017Traffic has been shifted to the right lane and demolition of the left half of each bridge deck has been completed. Crews are cleaning steel and creating forms for concrete pours scheduled for late summer.
5/18/2017The first half of each bridge deck has been poured. Once the concrete has sufficiently cured crews will pour the parapets (walls). Traffic will be shifted by mid-summer so work can begin on the second half of each bridge deck.
3/14/2017Reinforcing steel ("rebar") is in place and both bridge decks are nearly ready for concrete. Early spring work includes wrapping of the piers with carbon fiber to increase strength and durability, and pouring the first half of the concrete bridge decks. Once the first half of each new deck has cured SHA will shift traffic and begin work on the second half.
12/20/2016The deck/riding surface has been removed from the right lane of both bridges. Crews will work through the winter as weather permits to replace a steel girder on the MD 290 bridge and form/pour the first half of the new deck on each bridge. Roadway shoulders are being reconstructed to allow a traffic shift for left lane work in the spring.
10/19/2016Construction is underway. US 301 northbound has been reduced to one lane from just south of MD 290 (Crumpton/Pondtown exit) to just north of Red Lion Branch. This lane reduction will remain throughout the project.

WIDE LOAD ADVISORY: Farm equipment and other loads wider than 14 feet will not be able to pass through the work zone. Plan ahead and consider other routes such as MD 313.
7/27/2016Construction should begin in August and will include a single lane closure on northbound US 301 through both bridge deck replacement work zones. Motorists should plan ahead and allow extra time for travel through this area. Farmers and equipment operators/delivery drivers please note the lane closure will be accomplished via concrete barrier. Wide loads may not be able to pass through the work zones.
1/1/2013Engineering underway. Construction to begin during current fiscal year.
