8/13/2009The SHA Administrator selected the Preferred Alternative, Alternative 4 Modified-Four-Lane Divided Typical Section in June 2009. This alternative consists of a five-foot sidewalk on west side, a tree panel on both sides and a reduced median. It also proposes closing the median at Faith Lane/Lyle lane.

The next steps of the project include submittal of the Categorical Exclusion to FHWA this Summer followed by Location/Design Approval in September 2009.

6/10/2009A Public Open House was held March 24, 2009 to present the Modified 4 Alternative. On April 6, 2009 the Bowie City Council conducted a hearing at City Hall. There was general approval of the modifications to the project. Comments and concerns of the residents and Council were noted to be addressed in the next phase.

1/7/2009Further refinement of the Team Recommended Alternative 4 is currently being made and the resulting plans will be presented to the residents and City Council in early Spring 2009.

10/14/2008The Project Team met on June 23, 2008 to identify an alternative recommendation for selection. The Team recommended Alternative 4 with some modification. The Team recommended Alternative 4, was presented to the Bowie City Council at their Work Session on July 14, 2008. The Project Team presented this alternative as well as the comments from the public and the City of Bowie on August 6, 2008 to the State Highway Administrator. The Team was directed to develop an alternative incorporating some of the suggestions made by the City to reduce the footprint impacts and to present that to the community. Only after that occurance, would a final decision on the alternative be made.

7/28/2008A Location/Design Public Hearing was held on February 13, 2008 starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Benjamin Tasker Middle School.

The purpose of the Hearing was to formally present the results of the detailed engineering and environmental studies that have been conducted for this project and to provide an opportunity for interested individuals, associations, citizen groups, and government agencies to offer verbal or written comments for the project record before an alternative is selected.

Approximately 131 people attended the Hearing and 32 people provided testimony.

11/27/2007SHA held a Public Informational Open House on November 14, 2007 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Bowie City Hall.

The purpose of the Open House was to provide all stakeholders within the study area the opportunity to review and comment on the preliminary findings from the engineering and environmental impact analysis.
