12/20/2017The project team continues to work towards identifying a "Preferred Alternative" for the project. The team is currently conducting additional engineering analyses to minimize the potential property impacts. The Preferred Alternative is the improvement selected from among Alternatives Retained for Detailed Study (ARDS), that the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) and the project team conclude best meets the project purpose and need after taking into account feasibility, environmental impacts, appropriate mitigation measures, and public feedback. The team expects to select a Preferred Alternative in 2018.

1/1/2017Planning underway. County contributed $3.0 million for Planning.
 
12/2/2015Detailed engineering and environmental studies have been completed on Alternatives Retained for Detailed Study (ARDS) for the MD 97 Montgomery Hills Planning Study. The result of these studies were presented at a Location/Design Public Hearing on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at:
    Montgomery Blair High School 51 University Boulevard East Silver Spring, MD 20901 6:00 PM Maps and displays will be available for review. 7:00 PM Presentation/Testimony
Approximately 125 people attended the hearing. Comments received by December 31, 2015 will be included in the Public Hearing record.
 
3/19/2014The Alternatives Retained for Detailed Study (ARDS) have been approved by the FHWA and regulatory agencies. Details are summarized in the ARDS Document, available on the "Documents" page. Alternative 1: No Build, Alternative 2: TSM, Alternative 3: Master Plan, and Alternative 5: 4 Lanes Southbound and 3 Lanes Northbound have been retained for detailed study.
 
6/25/2013Alternatives Public Workshop scheduled: Tuesday, June 25, 2013 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM Woodlin Elementary School Cafeteria 2101 Luzerne Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910 Maps of the preliminary alternatives, traffic data, and impacts will be on display for public viewing. Team members will be available to answer questions and receive comments. There will be no formal presentation. You may arrive at any time.
