5/8/2018CONSTRUCTION UPDATE - SPRING 2018

Highway construction work continues throughout 2018; this work includes roadway widening, installation of new highway drainage systems and sanitary force line and installation / extension of new water main.

The construction work also includes widening the US 40 bridge over Cranberry Run to allow for the new lanes on US 40, widening MD 159 at the approach to US 40, relocation and upgrades of the traffic signal equipment at the intersection, new traffic barrier and new pavement markings.

Please plan ahead for extra travel time along US 40 between south of the US 40/MD/MD 159 intersection and south of the MD 715 interchange.

Temporary traffic shifts and lane closures may occur on US 40 during the day, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and at night Sunday - Thursday between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day. Work behind the concrete construction barriers along US 40 may take place at any time of the day.

Weather permitting, the project will be complete fall 2019.

11/1/2017CONSTRUCTION UPDATE - FALL 2017 / WINTER 2018

Utility relocation work for this project continues in the Phase 2 project area on US 40 at MD 7 /MD 159; the project work zone is approximately 2,500 feet to the west and 3,000 feet to the east of the intersection.

Highway construction work is underway and includes grading and earthwork along eastbound and westbound US 40 and construction of new drainage systems and widening of the roadway. The construction work also includes widening the US 40 bridge over Cranberry Run to allow for the new lanes on US 40, and relocation and upgrades of the traffic signal equipment at the intersection.

Highway construction work for Phase 2 will continue through fall 2017 and winter 2018 as weather permits.
 
2/10/2017The contractor, Allan Myers - Maryland received a Notice to Proceed on February 10, 2017 and may proceed with the construction contract.

Utility crews will be working as weather permits winter 2017 to relocate utility lines within the project area. Utility work will continue concurrently with highway construction work.

Highway construction work, such as site clearing work, is anticipated to begin late February or early March 2017.
 
7/28/2016SHA opened bids for the construction contract.
 
4/5/2016SHA re-advertised the contract.
 
1/1/2016Right-of-Way underway. Construction to begin during current fiscal year. City of Aberdeen contributed $0.1 million towards Construction and Harford County contributed $3.0 million towards Construction.
 
5/28/2015SHA held an community informational meeting regarding the proposed Phase Two improvements to the US 40 / MD 7 / MD 159 intersection at the George D. Lisby Elementary School in Aberdeen.
