1/4/2018CONSTRUCTION UPDATE - WINTER 2018

Contractor crews will continue construction work as weather permits during winter 2018 along southbound I-695 (Beltway Outer Loop) between south of Exit 15, the US 40 (National Pike) interchange and Exit 13, the MD 144 (Frederick Road) interchange.

All four travel lanes on southbound I-695 (Beltway Outer Loop) will remain open during peak travel hours: 5 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Digital message signs will advise travelers in advance of any temporary overnight lane closures and ramp detours this winter.

In spring 2018, MDOT SHA will begin long-term interchange ramp closures/detours when necessary to realign the existing ramps to the new width and height of the widened roadway.

1/24/2017CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC ALERT: EDMONDSON AVE. TO BE CLOSED UNDERNEATH I-695 ON WEEKEND OF JANUARY 27 - 30; DETOURS IN EFFECT

Weather permitting, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration plans to temporarily close and detour the section of Edmondson Avenue underneath I-695 (Baltimore Beltway Inner and Outer Loop) the weekend of January 27.

Digital message signs are in place to alert motorists to the upcoming weekend road closure and detour, which will begin 7 p.m. Friday, January 27 and end by 5 a.m. Monday, January 30. The detour will allow contractor crews to more safely perform demolition work on the Outer Loop side of the I-695 bridge over Edmondson Avenue.

Traffic on eastbound Edmondson Avenue will be diverted onto the I-695 Outer Loop, through the MD 144 (Frederick Road) interchange, onto the I-695 Inner Loop, and back to Edmondson Avenue east of I-695.

Traffic on westbound Edmondson Avenue will be diverted onto the I-695 Inner Loop to the US 40 (National Pike) interchange, onto eastbound US 40, onto southbound Ingleside Avenue and back southbound Ingleside Avenue, traveling under I-695 and back to Edmondson Avenue west of I-695.

This work is part of SHA’s $68 million project to reconstruct and widen the I-695 Outer Loop between south of US 40 and MD 144. In case of inclement weather, the weekend road closure and detour will take place on the next possible weekend.

Local residents with questions or concerns may call SHA’s construction project field office in Catonsville at 410-975-4812.
