5/1/2018Final surface paving and striping of the eastbound lanes is underway and should be completed by mid-May. Landscaping will continue along both directions and may require occasional, short single lane closures.
1/17/2018All lanes remain open. Crews continue to work on landscaping and stormwater management and motorists should remain alert for occasional single lane closures associated with this work. Final surface paving will occur in the spring.
11/17/2017All lanes are open to traffic and all intersections are in final configuration as of November 20. Work will continue through the winter and include landscaping and bioswale construction. Final surface paving will resume when warm weather returns in the spring. Traffic information, including diagrams of the redesigned intersections, is available at www.md404project.com.
9/3/2017Two of the three major traffic shifts have taken place - at the east and west project sections. The third shift, between Church Rd. and Norwich Creek, will take place in mid-September. These shifts provide safe access for crews to work on the old MD 404 roadway which will become the new eastbound lanes, as well as the median bioswales. Thawley Rd. is closed at MD 404 and the east leg of Saathoff Rd. is also closed at MD 404. These closures are necessary for motorist safety and will remain in effect through mid-November. See www.md404project.com for more information including weekly lane closure updates and live traffic cameras.
6/16/2017The concrete deck has been poured for the new bridge over Norwich Creek. Soil cement is in place throughout much of the project - this locks the roadbed in place for placement of aggregate. Extensive base paving will take place through the summer. Motorists should expect multiple flagging operations and delays weekdays through the summer. See www.md404project.com for more project details, photos and weekly traffic updates.
4/5/2017Grading and drainage work will continue in the nine-mile work zone through spring. Motorists should expect daily lane closures and flagging in multiple locations. Allow extra time for travel between US 50 and Denton. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph.
1/18/2017A traffic shift will occur late January, weather permitting. This will be on the west end near US 50 and will expedite completion of several box culverts under the existing MD 404 roadway. Utility relocations continue throughout the project corridor and substantial clearing and drainage work are underway on the east end. Motorists should expect multiple flagging operations during the week. PLAN AHEAD FOR BEACH TRAVEL. MD 404 will be under construction through the summer and motorists are urged to begin planning alternate beach routes now. Consider traveling during late evening and overnight hours Tuesday through Thursday. See www.md404project.com for updated lane closure and project information.
11/17/2016Clearing and grading continue throughout the project corridor. Numerous stream and stormwater pipes are being installed under daily single lane closures. Motorists should be alert for multiple flagging operations and expect delays. See www.md404project.com for the latest construction and traffic information.
9/12/2016Construction is underway. See www.md404project.com for the latest construction updates and traffic information.
1/1/2016Engineering and Right-of-Way underway. Construction to begin during budget fiscal year.
