11/21/2017The US 220 Tier I Project Planning Study in Allegany County received Location Approval in July 2014. 9/3/2014On July 21, 2014, the Federal Highway Administration granted Location Approval for the Preferred Corridor B with the potential to use either the Corridor B terminus with I-68 or the Corridor D terminus with I-68 as the project¿s northern terminus for the US 220 Tier I Project Planning Study in Allegany County.

Having received Location Approval for the US 220 Tier I Project Planning Study, SHA has initiated the US 220 Tier II Project Planning Study from I-68 (National Freeway) to Cresaptown, MD, via US 220 or MD 53 in Allegany County.
 
1/6/2014The project team is finalizing the environmental document for review and approval by FHWA in Winter 2014. Document approval is also being coordinated with environmental agencies.
 
6/13/2013The Administrators of both states have concurred to recommend Corridor B. This includes the northern spur of Corridor D in Maryland. In West Virginia, WVDOH recommends that Corridor D is considered as an upgrade of existing roads. The project team is finalizing the environmental document for review and approval by FHWA later in Summer 2013. Document approval is also being coordinated with environmental agencies.
 
9/5/2012The project team is finalizing the environmental document to include the recommended corridor. Once the corridor has been concurred upon by the Administrators of both states, the project team will post the selected corridor.
 
6/25/2012The project team is meeting and coordinating with the environmental regulatory agencies and state and local governments to discuss the recommended Corridor for the US 220 Tier One Planning Study.
 
3/13/2012A Location/Design (L/D) Public Hearing was held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in Keyser, West Virginia and on Wednesday September 14, 2011 in Cumberland, Maryland. The project team has responded to all comments received at the Maryland L/D Public Hearing and the hearing transcript is available. Currently, we are in the process of developing a team recommended alternative for review and approval by the Maryland SHA Administrator and West Virginia in the Spring 2012.
 
6/20/2011The Draft Environmental Impact Statement was submitted to FHWA in February 2011. A Public Hearing is being scheduled for September 2011.
 
7/21/2010The Tier One Planning Study was restarted in October 2009. The project team will be reviewing and updating the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for submital to FHWA. A public hearing is scheduled for 2010.
 
9/8/2009Due to the current econmic downtown, Project Planning activities have been placed on-hold.
 
11/19/2008Project team met with the City of Cumberland on July 24, 2008 and provided them with an update on the status of the project to include a discussion of the current Transportation Scenarios and schedule.
 
7/10/2008The project team is in the process of developing and reviewing a Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
 
10/22/2007The project team has developed a draft Purpose and Need Statement and a draft Corridors Retained for Further Analysis document. Both documents are currently under review.
 
4/4/2007In preparation for the Workshop, copies of background materials will be available for review at the following locations: Allegany County, MD Office Complex, Grant Court House, Hampshire County Court House, Hardy County Court House, Mineral County Court House, Washington Street Library (Cumberland, MD), Burlington Public Library, Hardy County Public Library (Moorefield), Keyser-Mineral County Public Library, WVDOH District 5 (Burlington) and MDSHA District 6 (LaVale). Comments on the project are due at the WVDOH by May 31, 2007. Public documents will be available for review in the public library and
