SB 301 box culverts Box culvert along southbound US 301 nearing completion.
SB 301 box culverts Concrete is placed in forms to create the box culvert system that will carry a small stream through the new interchange. The same crane used to drive timber piles in the spring has been fitted with a dump bucket to provide a quick transfer of concrete from trucks along the US 301 shoulder to the box culvert forms.

304 fill operation Extensive fill and grading operations continue on both sides of US 301. This photo is along MD 304 west of US 301, where a new roundabout will be constructed about 20 feet above existing grade. This elevation is necessary for the bridge that will carry MD 304 over US 301. Fill operations are expedited by maintaining a large stockpile area along northbound US 301 - in good weather trucks can quickly load, travel a short distance, dump and circle back for the next load. This also results in an efficient grading and compaction process. Most of the fill areas will have a "quarantine" period meaning no construction can take place for certain time periods while settling of the fill is monitored.
MD 304 west side roundabout taking shape The west side roundabout begins taking shape with recent base paving of the ramps to and from southbound US 301 and construction of the concrete splitter island that will separate traffic entering and exiting the circle.
US 301 median pier The concrete columns and pier cap have been constructed in the US 301 median. The seven pedestals atop the cap will be fitted with bearings to support the steel girders which will span US 301.
304 overpass beam set Crews inspect a beam splice over the northbound lanes of US 301.
304 overpass beam set Crews began setting the MD 304 overpass steel beams across US 301 in early March.
304 overpass beam set Temporary bracing is installed to join two rows of steel, creating a box which provides stability in high winds.
