Four-Lanes Southbound (SB) and Three to Four Lanes Northbound (NB) with Flora Lane Intersection and a new traffic signal on Georgia Avenue at Flora Lane. This Alternative includes Alternative 5 features above, plus:
  • Flora Lane would be shifted south to intersect with the existing shopping center entrance.
  • Left turns would be permitted onto Flora Lane.
  • The intersection would include pedestrian crosswalks.

The two-way cycle track would be located on the west side of Georgia Avenue, from the pedestrian bridge to a southbound 16th Street ramp bicycle facility.
  • Bicycle traffic would be separated from motorized traffic with a three-foot-wide buffer.
  • Bicycle lanes would be four-foot-wide in each direction.
  • At southbound 16th Street ramp, the cycle track ends and on-road bicycle lanes would be provided on both sides of Georgia Avenue, to the intersection with northbound 16th Street.

Alternative Includes:
  • Transit Signal Priority (TSP) – Alters signal timing to allow buses to more easily pass through an intersection without stopping;
  • Queue Jumps- Short additional lanes that allow approaching buses to move to the front of through traffic on a green light, at signalized intersections;
  • Access Consolidation– Reduces the number of access points, to reduce conflicts with turning vehicles;
  • Sidewalks compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act standards, on both sides of Georgia Avenue, with grass buffer where space allows;
  • and
  • Wide outside lanes accommodate on-road bicycle use.

The Master Plan Alternative is consistent with Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission's North and West Silver Spring Master Plan, adopted in 2000. Features include:
  • Raised median with left turn lanes;
  • Columbia Boulevard closed at Seminary Road intersection;
  • Corwin Drive closed to create additional parking;
  • Potential new traffic signal at Flora Lane;
  • Realigns Seminary Road at MD 97;
  • Wide sidewalks on both sides of Georgia avenue compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act standards;
  • Median refuge area at crosswalks; and
  • On-road bicycles directed to county road network.
