The Selected Alternative includes two lanes in both directions, comprised of an 11-foot wide inside lane and a 12-foot wide outside lane with a six-foot wide bike lane. The two directions are separated by an 18-foot wide median. The roadway improvement also includes a three-foot wide grass buffer adjacent to the outside travel lane in both directions. A five-foot wide sidewalk and a 10-foot wide shared-use pedestrian/bicycle path are provided on alternating sides of the roadway, outside of a three-foot-wide grass buffer. A two-foot wide grass buffer is provided on the outside of the sidewalk and path. The sidewalk begins at Russett Green East and extends over MD 295 to Arundel Gateway Boulevard. The path extends from Russett Green East and over MD 295 on the north side of MD 198. The path then changes sides with the sidewalk at Gateway Boulevard and continues to Bald Eagle Drive. A five-foot wide sidewalk is provided along the south side of MD 198, through the MD 198/MD 32 interchange and ends at the Fort Meade gate. Improvements for the complete project area are shown on the two maps dated September 2014. To see improvement details, view segment maps 1-6.
This is a PDF Attachment, double click to view:August 2015: MD 198/MD 32 Interchange Option A - Flyover Ramp August 2015: MD 198/MD 32 Interchange Option A - Flyover Ramp

The Selected Alternative retains the existing configuration of the MD 198/MD 32 Interchange. A flyover ramp is introduced that allows traffic from northbound MD 32 to access westbound MD 198 directly, completely separating this traffic from the existing roundabouts. The current lanes on the MD 198 bridge over MD 32 will be restriped to be one 16-foot-lane in each direction with a one-foot curb offset. A five-foot-wide sidewalk with a curb and gutter will be added to the eastbound side of the existing bridge. All other traffic through the interchange would operate as it does today. View map dated September 2014.
