Bus rapid transit (BRT) study from Silver Spring Metro Station to Burtonsville. This study will evaluate roadway improvements to implement Montgomery County's BRT system on MD 384 and US 29 from Silver Spring Metro Station to Burtonsville.
US 29 between the Silver Spring Transit Center and the Burtonsville Park & Ride is approximately 12 miles long, and contains numerous interchanges, signalized and unsignalized intersections, and driveways. It is a Principal Arterial and has existing traffic volumes ranging from 32,000 to 68,000.
Investigations are underway to determine the needs of the corridor, both from a vehicle operations and a transit ridership standpoint. The Montgomery County Countywide Transit Corridor Functional Master Plan will be used as a starting point in the concept development process; however a wide range of concepts will be investigated as part of this initial study.
