IS 0270 DWIGTH D EISENHOWER HWY AND CLARKSBURG RD MD 121 (CLARKSBURG RD) INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENT, AND MD 121 REALIGNMENT
Project Name:
I-270, Eisenhower Highway, and US 15, Frederick Freeway

Location of Project:
MD 121 (CLARKSBURG RD) INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENT, AND MD 121 REALIGNMENT

Description:
PP/PE REVIEW OF KCI WORK ON MD 121 INTCH & REALIGNMENT

Scope:
The scope of the study is to address the immediate needs of the Cabin Branch development and pipeline developments in the Clarksburg area and maintain the level of operations and overall integrity along the I-270 corridor.

A full range of alternatives was considered for improving the I-270/MD 121 interchange, including, but not limited to: Transportation Systems Management (TSM); Transportation Demand Management (TDM); and No-Build and Build Alternatives.

This project is unique in that the Developer, Cabin Branch Management, L.L.C., is funding the entirety of the I-270/MD 121-Cabin Branch Project Planning Study and subsequent phases.

What Is Under Study:
The study has resulted in the following preferred alternative:

Alternative 2 - Provides a new single lane southbound directional ramp from eastbound MD 121 (along the property line of the SHA salt dome facility) to I-270 south of the interchange. The bridge and roadway will be widened to three lanes in each direction separated by a variable width median. The existing stop controlled ramp termini intersections will be modified to include signals and widening to accommodate two left turn lanes for northbound to westbound movements. The existing westbound MD 121 to southbound I-270 inner loop ramp will be maintained.
