Project Name:
US 219, Garrett Highway

Location of Project:
BRIDGE 1102400 OVER YOUGHIOGHENY RIVER

Description:
Study to replace Bridge 1102400 over Youghiogheny River.

Scope:
The bridge on US 219 over the Youghiogheny River is scheduled for replacement. Originally constructed in 1900 and widened in 1928, the bridge is safe for the traveling public, but is nearing the end of its useful service life. Should the deterioration continue, weight restrictions (reduced loads for trucks) would need to be posted to ensure safety. This would have a significant impact on the local economy.

The new bridge will provide wider shoulders and the roadway will be realigned in order to improve safety. Replacing the bridge at this time will save money on future maintenance spending and support safety and mobility as part of SHA’s bridge system preservation program.

Various realignment options and maintenance of traffic schemes are currently being evaluated.
