County:Baltimore Project Number:BA366_51
IS 0695 IL BALTIMORE BELTWAY SRI - OVER BENSON AVENUE AND LEEDS AVENUE, US 1 AND AMTRAK
Project Name:
I-695, Baltimore Beltway

Location of Project:
SRI - OVER BENSON AVENUE AND LEEDS AVENUE, US 1 AND AMTRAK

Description:
Replacement of Bridge 03113 on I-695 Inner Loop over Benson Ave. and Bridge 03114 on I-695 Inner Loop over Leeds Ave., US 1, AMTRAK and Herbert Run. The project also includes the realignment of the access to the I-695 on-ramp from Leeds Ave. to US 1.

Scope:
SHA is constructing two major highway improvement projects in Arbutus under one project construction contract, which includes:

1) Total replacement of the two bridges carrying northbound I-695 (inner loop) over Benson Avenue, AMTRAK, US 1 (Southwestern Boulevard) and Leeds Avenue; bridge construction work is underway and continues fall 2017.

2) Relocation of the interchange ramp from Leeds Avenue to northbound I-695 (Beltway Inner Loop). This ramp was permanently closed to traffic spring 2015 and demolished.

In fall 2016, SHA completed a new interchange ramp that provides a direct connection from US 1 to northbound I-695 (Beltway inner loop). The new ramp opened November 3, 2016.

SHA is also reconstructing and reconfiguring US 1 between Linden Avenue and Knecht Avenue, changing US 1 from a four-lane highway to a two-lane highway, with one through lane in each direction, turning lanes, bicycle lanes and sidewalks.

Weather permitting, the I-695 and US 1 improvements will be complete late fall 2017.
