BRIDGE TO BRIDGE AND I-270 FROM I-495 TO I-70

Scope:
Project Area Map

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (MDOT/SHA) is conducting planning studies for the west and top sides of I-495 (Capital Beltway), from MD 295 in Prince George's County, Maryland, to south of the American Legion Memorial Bridge in Fairfax County, Virginia. This portion of I-495 includes several of the most congested highway segments in Maryland.

The I-495 study is part of MDOT SHA’s overall effort to understand statewide transportation needs, and will be used in long-term planning of major investments in the study area. MDOT SHA will continue to coordinate with the Virginia Department of Transportation to ensure any improvement concepts developed are compatible with both states’ transportation needs. As the project moves forward, several outreach efforts are planned by MDOT SHA, to inform the public and gather valuable input that will aid in the development of the Strategic Plan.
