County:Anne Arundel Project Number:AA372_11
MD 0295 BALTIMORE WASHINGTON PARKWAY MD 100 TO I-195 AND HANOVER ROAD

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

What are the Project Limits?

A:

The project limits are along MD 295 from south of MD 100 to north of I-195, and along Hanover Road from High Tech Drive on the west to MD 170 (Aviation Boulevard) on the east.

Q:

What is the purpose of this project?

A:

The purpose of this project is to improve the existing capacity, safety and operations on MD 295 from MD 100 to I-195 and to enhance Hanover Road as a secondary access to the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and the BWI business services.

Q:

What is the need for this project?

A:

The area around BWI is one of the fastest growing areas of Anne Arundel County. Employment is expected to increase with recent and future development. Passenger volumes at BWI are expected to increase 72% by the year 2020. Future traffic demand may exceed the BWI terminal area and access roadway capacities during peak travel times. Without improvements, by 2020 many of these regional facilities will operate at unacceptable levels of delay and congestion.

Q:

What is included in the project costs shown?

A:

The project costs shown are preliminary in nature. They include the anticipated cost of design, right-of-way acquisition, and construction for MD 295 Project Planning Study.

Q:

How long does each of the subsequent phases take to complete?

A:

Final Design: 2 to 3 years; Right-of-Way Acquisition: 18 months to 2 years (could begin midway through Final Design); Construction: 2 to 3 years.
